What is psychotherapy and why might one seek psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is a general term that refers to the treatment of mental health problems such as behavioral disorders, nervous disorders, mood disorders, interpersonal conflicts, and any other psychological dilemma. Individuals, couples, and families may seek out psychotherapy to address symptoms of depression, anxiety, relationship problems, academic or occupational problems, and stress.

Is everything confidential in psychotherapy?

Everything talked or spoken about in psychotherapy is confidential with the exception of the following: child abuse, elderly abuse, intent to harm oneself, and intent to harm another.

Information can be shared with outside providers once written permission is obtained.
